The musikfest berlin at the Berliner Festspiele takes place this year from 31 August to 16 September. This festival was inaugurated in 2005 as the successor to the traditional Berliner Festwochen and is now organised together with the Stiftung Berliner Philharmoniker. We present world-class orchestras, ensembles, conductors and soloists with special programmes. Among our guests this year will be the Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam conducted by Bernard Haitink, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks and its principal conductor Mariss Jansons, the Boston Symphony Orchestra with James Levine, the San Francisco Symphony with Michael Tilson Thomas, the Philharmonia Orchestra London with Charles Dutoit, the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden with Fabio Luisi, the Ensemble musikFabrik with Peter Rundel, the Ensemble Modern and the Pellegrini Quartet. Also taking part are the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by their principal conductor Sir Simon Rattle, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin with Lothar Zagrosek, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester with Ingo Metzmacher, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin with Marek Janowski and the Staatskapelle Berlin conducted by Gustavo Dudamel, IRCAM, the RIAS Kammerchor, the Ernst Senff Chor and the Rundfunkchor Berlin. Solists include Sergej Leiferkus, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Daniel Barenboim, András Schiff, Magdalena Ko┼żená, Marlis Petersen, John Mark Ainsley, Axel Köhler, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Véronique Gens, Hélène Grimaud, Susan Gritton, Monica Bacelli and Nathalie Stutzmann.
