Otomo Yoshihide plays Takeo Yamashita

SONIC ARTS LOUNGE | JAPAN AND THE WEST
Otomo Yoshihide’s New Jazz Orchestra
plays old Japanese TV music by Takeo Yamashita

as a guest: Kayoko Ishu · Gesang

Otomo Yoshihide is one of the most creative and original musicians of Japan’s experimental music scene and has inhabited many divergent sound worlds in the course of his career. In 1990 he founded the influential “Ground Zero” band, cultivated a temporary passion for “low frequency minimalist electronic music“, and has played in varying jazz formations, like the New Jazz Quintet (from 1999), later the New Jazz Orchestra. At SONIC ARTS LOUNGE of MaerzMusik 2006 Yoshihide and New Jazz Orchestra will present two different programmes, re-producing, re-arranging and re-inventing existent musical material: TV music by Takeo Yamashita and Eric Dolphy’s “out to lunch” – a play on the title and music on Dolphy’s LP bearing the same title.
