Berliner Festspiele · In Tune with the Arts

The Berliner Festspiele have been defining the cultural life of the city of Berlin for six decades. With our international festivals and programmes – MaerzMusik, Theatertreffen, musikfest berlin, international literature festival berlin, spielzeit’europa and JazzFest Berlin – we present contemporary artistic developments in music, theatre, dance and literature. The Martin-Gropius-Bau, the city’s most attractive exhibition venue, shows exhibitions on archaeology and cultural history, contemporary art and photography. The dialogue with artists and the arts from the whole world is enhanced by our lecture series Berliner Lektionen with significant figures from public life. Our national German youth contests offer a public forum for young artists.
With the Berliner Festspiele, the city has a special »universal festival« that transcends genres and national borders and creates a unique forum for reflection. Since 2001, the Haus der Berliner Festspiele has been the pulsating centre for this diverse spectrum of events. The open architecture of this modern theatre building provides an ideal setting for art that is out of the ordinary, often as yet unknown and always innovative. The Berliner Festspiele cordially invite you to join us there.

Joachim Sartorius
Artistic Director, Berliner Festspiele 2001 – 2011
